Paul Foster Case

(1884–1954) — American occultist, one-time member of the Alpha et Omega, and founder of the Builders of the Adytum (B.O.T.A.), which taught the Golden Dawn's system by correspondence course to a mass American audience and still does.

His innovation was pedagogical: students were sent an uncoloured tarot deck and instructed to paint it themselves according to the colour scales, on the theory that you learn the correspondences by putting them on with a brush. Whatever one thinks of the metaphysics, it is a genuinely good piece of teaching design.

Included because the descendants' bench is not only about the famous quarrelling men of 1900; a great deal of the transmission happened quietly, by post, to ordinary people at kitchen tables.
