The great dissenter inside Vedānta, and the reason this door does not present Hinduism as one voice. Against Śaṅkara he argued qualified non-dualism: the self is truly of God's substance, as a body is of its soul — but it does not dissolve, and the relationship survives liberation, because a devotion with nobody left to love is not the summit but the loss of one. This is the position a Kabbalist would recognise immediately. It is very nearly devekut: union as the closest possible cleaving that still has two. Advaita is the famous Hindu answer and it is not the only one — and where the tradition argues with itself, it argues about precisely the thing this door parts from it on.
