The Cipher Manuscripts

Sixty folios in a simple substitution cipher — the alphabet running backwards, a schoolboy's code — sketching the outlines of five initiation rituals and a grade structure. Produced by Westcott in 1887 as the warrant for founding the Order, together with letters from a German adept, Fräulein Sprengel, whose existence has never been independently established.

The paper has been dated to the nineteenth century. Who composed the contents, and from what, remains genuinely open: candidates include Kenneth Mackenzie, the SRIA circle generally, and Westcott himself.

The app records the dispute and declines to settle it — the same discipline it applies to the dating of the Ṣaṭ-cakra-nirūpaṇa, and to the authorship of the Zohar.
