Liber de Causis (The Book of Causes)
correspondences
nature
An Arabic paraphrase of Proclus, made in 9th-century Baghdad, which travelled into Latin Europe attributed to Aristotle — and so was taught in the universities as Aristotelian metaphysics for roughly a century until Aquinas, reading Moerbeke's fresh translation of the Elements, recognized the source and said so. A useful caution for everything on this bench: ideas move under false names, and a tradition can be shaped by an ancestor it has misidentified.
