‖ the six hundred and thirteen
‖ the six hundred and thirteen — Makkot 23b–24a, read from the daf, plus RAMBAM’S OWN ENUMERATION. THREE PANELS. ◈ THE BODY, AND THE YEAR: ⭐⭐⭐ the central interaction is a CORRECTION. R. Simlai pairs the 248 POSITIVE commandments with a person’s LIMBS and the 365 PROHIBITIONS with THE DAYS OF THE SOLAR YEAR — he does NOT say sinews. So the room draws exactly that: a body, and a ring of days around it. The famous “248 limbs and 365 sinews” is a LATER pairing, and the toggle that pulls the 365 onto the body says so on its face. ⚠ The ELEVEN categories are OURS, a reading aid and not a tradition — and the eleventh, ◘ purity and defilement, was FORCED BY THE DATA rather than chosen, because twenty entries had nowhere to go but the sanctuary and that would have been a lie about what they are. NO CATEGORY NUMBER IS EVER PRINTED — a per-category number would mean adopting one enumeration of the 613, and there is no agreed one: Rambam, Ramban and the Halakhot Gedolot differ on PRINCIPLE, not detail. ⚠ A separate toggle dims the classes that have not been performable since the year 70 — the sanctuary, the land’s agriculture, the court’s penalties, the king. The app gives no number there either; the classes are not in dispute, the arithmetic is. ⭐ The number itself is 611 + 2: תורה in gematria is 611, and two commandments were heard from the mouth of the Almighty rather than through Moses. ⚖ THE LADDER: ⭐⭐ do what the Gemara does on the same page — take 613 down to 11 (David, Psalm 15), 6 (Isaiah 33:15), 3 (Micah 6:8), 2 (Isaiah 56:1), 1 (Amos 5:4) — ⚠⚠ AND THAT RUNG IS KICKED AWAY, because Rav Naḥman bar Yitzḥak objects that “seek Me” could mean the whole Torah — and then 1 (Habakkuk 2:4, the righteous shall live by his faith). ⭐⭐ AND IT DOES NOT END IN A SHRUG: Rabban Gamliel WEPT at “he who performs these shall never be moved”, reading eleven more things to fail at — and the Sages answered him from the grammar. It does not say ALL these. Even one of them. ⚠ The PLACEMENT of any mark on the figure is ours; the tradition gives a COUNT, not a chart. ⌧ THE LIST: ⭐⭐⭐ all 613 in Rambam’s own enumeration, one at a time — searchable, filterable, and EVERY ENTRY IS ONE OF THE DOTS ON THE FIGURE, at the same coordinates the body panel draws. Open one for its verse, its class, whether it corrects its class, and its note. ⚠⚠ You can mark an entry as READ, never as KEPT: most of these have not been performable since the year 70, many were only ever addressed to a priest or a king or a court, and this app does not tell anyone what to keep. Marking one lights its limb or its day; fill the 248 and the figure lights, fill the 365 and the ring closes. ⭐⭐⭐ AND THE CELEBRATION FIRES ON THE FIRST ONE, not the last — because the line it quotes is the Sages telling Rabban Gamliel that it does not say ALL these. A celebration held back until 613 would teach the opposite of its own text. ⚠ A note appears only where a NAMED SOURCE actually says something; where a line carries no name the room says the line is the app’s own. Reference only; the room never tells you what to keep.
