THE ATLAS OF THE UNPAINTABLE

Hilma af Klint

af Klint
nature
Swedish painter who in 1906 began The Paintings for the Temple — 193 works made, she said, at the instruction of beings she called the High Masters. She left them to her nephew with the instruction that they not be shown for twenty years after her death.

⭐⭐⭐ SHE PAINTED ABSTRACTION IN 1906 AND HID IT. The Ten Largest (1907) are three metres tall, the size of stage flats, and were made in forty days. Her 2018 Guggenheim show drew over 600,000 people and became the most visited exhibition in that museum's sixty-year history — for a painter the canon had not contained at all.
The pictures were painted directly through me, without any preliminary drawings and with great force.
