THE ATLAS OF THE UNPAINTABLE

The Holy Mountain (1973)

The Holy Mountain
nature
Alejandro Jodorowsky's alchemical film: a thief who resembles Christ, an alchemist, seven industrialists named for the planets, and a climb toward immortality that ends by turning the camera on the crew.

The most sustained esoteric image-system ever put on film, and Jodorowsky is explicit about the sources — tarot, alchemy, and a Kabbalah he learned partly from Ejo Takata and partly from making it up, which he will also tell you. ⚠ The ending refuses its own transcendence, which is why it belongs in an app that keeps saying this is a picture somebody made.
Zoom back, camera! We are images, dreams, photographs.
