THE ATLAS OF THE UNPAINTABLE

The letter as a form, not a word

the letter as form
nature
Twenty-two shapes that built a world before they spelled anything. Once a letter is treated as a form it can be drawn, layered, repeated, hidden and broken — and it keeps meaning something even when nobody is reading it.

This is the one place where the Kabbalah gives a painter something a Christian mystic simply does not have: a set of forms that are simultaneously alphabet, cosmology and picture. Berman built a practice on it; Krasner did it without ever saying so; Rand made a commandment of each one.

sephirahchokhmah
whyChokhmah is the flash before the word. A letter drawn as a shape is that flash, held still.

Tehiru is a walk-in model of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and its kindred ways — built to be explored, not read. This page is a still frame of one node; the app is where it moves.
