The twenty-three-year-old who told Rome that no discipline proves the divinity of Christ better than magic and Kabbalah, and offered to defend nine hundred theses on it. The Church declined.

He is the hinge. Pico is why a Jewish esoteric tradition became available to Christian Europe at all — and therefore why there is an art history in this wing rather than a footnote.
