THE ATLAS OF THE EMPTY THRONE

Chan · Zen

Chan / Zen
nature
The meditation school that grew in China and flowered in Korea, Japan and Vietnam — famous for its refusal of scaffolding (no reliance on words and letters), for the kōan as a device that defeats analysis, and for a monastic culture that was in practice extremely well-organised about being spontaneous.

The form the West met first, and the one most reshaped in the meeting.
