Aśoka's missions

Aśoka's missions
nature
The emperor sends teachers out — to Sri Lanka, to the Himalayan kingdoms, and by his own edicts as far as the Hellenistic courts of the Mediterranean world, where they left no trace anyone has found.

The reason Buddhism became a world religion rather than a regional school — and a near-miss worth noticing, since those missions were pointed at the same Mediterranean the Tree would later grow beside.
