THE ATLAS OF THE ORDER THAT TOOK

Compulsion, against participation

compulsion vs participation
nature
Theurgy is participation: the soul is lifted, and the gods are not moved — the operator is the object of the operation. Ceremonial magic in the Order's sense includes something else: the compelling of a spirit to appear and obey, by name, by seal, by threat of a greater name.

The deepest parting on this bench, and the app already owned the instrument before the wing existed — Iamblichus' distinction, wired into the Neoplatonism wing. The Kabbalah's practice runs the other way: a God who is addressed and never commanded.
