Florence Farr

Actress, director, New Woman, Shaw's and Yeats's collaborator, and Praemonstratrix of the Isis-Urania temple — for a period the effective head of the Order in England. Later left to teach in Ceylon.

The Order was unusually open to women in an era that was not, and Farr is the clearest evidence: a woman running the temple, on the same grades, by the same examinations. Worth stating plainly on a bench that is otherwise being criticised.
