THE ATLAS OF THE ALIEN SPARK

Hippolytus of Rome

Hippolytus
nature
Author of the Refutation of All Heresies, which tries to prove that every Christian heresy is a plagiarism of some Greek philosophy. His method is tendentious and his quotations are gold: Basilides' non-existent God and several Valentinian fragments survive nowhere else.

The second pillar of the pre-1945 evidence, and a useful lesson in reading hostile sources: his ARGUMENT is worthless and his QUOTATIONS are priceless, and separating the two is a skill.
