274 — Mani dies in chains

Mani dies imprisoned under Bahram I of Persia. His church does not die with him: it spreads west into Roman Africa and east along the Silk Road, surviving in China into the seventeenth century.

The one Gnostic movement that became a world religion, and the reason a Gnostic cosmology of imprisoned light was in circulation across Eurasia for well over a millennium.
