The Valentinians sorted humanity three ways: hylic (of matter), psychic (of soul — moral and religious, capable of faith but not of gnosis) and pneumatic (of spirit, carrying the spark). Some sources treat these as fixed kinds; others, more defensibly, as CONDITIONS a person moves through.

The charge that stuck hardest — spiritual apartheid, an aristocracy of the saved — and the place where the Jewish parallel has the same anatomy and the opposite politics.
