Jesus prepares James for what will meet him after death by rehearsing the exchange at the gates: the challenge, and the answer that identifies the traveller's origin rather than his merit. A second, better-preserved copy surfaced in the Codex Tchacos in the 2000s.

The single most explicit surviving script for a Gnostic ascent — and the direct evidence that the gates open on SPEECH, on a formula of origin, exactly as the Hekhalot gates open on seals and names.
