THE ATLAS OF THE MOVEMENT THAT MOVED THE ADDRESS
התלהבות · Burning
hitlahavut
nature
Ecstatic fervour in prayer — swaying, shouting, weeping, somersaults in some early accounts — and a deliberate reordering of what prayer is for. The Hasidim also changed the rite to the Lurianic Nusach Sefard and prayed past the halakhic time limits when the fervour required it.
⚠ Two of the three concrete charges in the 1772 herem are here, and they are liturgical rather than doctrinal — which is a useful reminder that the quarrel was fought over things people could actually see. A community can argue about ontology for a century; it splits over what time you daven.
