THE ATLAS OF THE EMERALD TABLET
Cosimo tells Ficino to translate Hermes first
Florence, 1462
nature
A Greek manuscript arrives from Macedonia. Cosimo de' Medici, elderly and in a hurry, has Ficino set the Plato aside. The Latin is finished within months and printed in 1471.
The queue-jump that shaped four centuries. Europe met "the most ancient theologian" before it met Plotinus, and read everything afterwards in that order.
