THE ATLAS OF THE EMERALD TABLET

Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition

Yates 1964
nature
The book that put Hermeticism back at the centre of the Renaissance — and argued, controversially, that the magical pursuit of operating on nature helped make the scientific one thinkable.

The strongest single case for why a tradition dated to the wrong century still mattered enormously. Later scholars have narrowed the thesis; the room keeps both the book and the narrowing.
