THE ATLAS OF THE INMOST SELF
Mātṛkā · the little mothers
the garland of letters
nature
The fifty sounds of the Sanskrit alphabet understood as the emitting structure of reality — mātṛkā, the little mothers — arranged by the grammarians in a grid: five places of articulation across, five manners down, twenty-five cells, with the vowels gathered at the throat.
A mouth-map beside a mouth-map. Sefer Yetzirah 2:3 sorts its twenty-two by the same five places — throat, palate, tongue, teeth, lips — and then stops. The grammarians went further and made a grid, place by manner, which nobody else did. The app's room ⌖ the garland lays the two alphabets side by side by where in the mouth each sound is made, and lights the Hebrew letters made at the same station.
