Eranos

An annual conference at Ascona, on Lake Maggiore, founded in 1933, where scholars of religion, myth and mysticism lectured to one another across disciplines for decades — Jung a defining presence from the first year, Gershom Scholem a regular lecturer on Kabbalah from 1949 on.

The one place this wing's two halves — Jung's psychology and Scholem's scholarship — actually shared a room, repeatedly, for years, after the controversy above. Neither converted the other, but Eranos is where the possibility of a serious conversation between analytical psychology and Kabbalah scholarship was kept alive in person rather than only in footnotes.
