CARL JUNG AND THE KABBALAH
Jung on Film
filmography
nature
Documentaries and dramatizations built from Jung’s own life and record, spanning a 1959 television interview through a 1986 documentary drawing on his surviving intimates to a 2011 dramatic feature about the Freud years.
⭐ THE THEORETICAL WING GIVEN A FACE AND A VOICE. Face to Face (BBC, 1959) is Jung on camera, two years before his death, answering John Freeman’s questions about God, death and his own visions without a script. Matter of Heart (1986) draws on interviews with people who actually knew him — Marie-Louise von Franz among them. A Dangerous Method (2011), directed by David Cronenberg, dramatizes the Freud break (jg-freud-break) and the affair with Sabina Spielrein that shadowed it, fictionalized but built from the documented correspondence. None of these is a substitute for the primary texts; all three are the closest this wing can get to putting the reader in the room.
