CARL JUNG AND THE KABBALAH
Carl Gustav Jung
Jung
nature
The Swiss psychiatrist who broke with Freud in 1913 over the nature of the unconscious, and spent the rest of his life building analytical psychology around a claim Freud never made: that the unconscious is not only personal repression, but carries patterns — archetypes — common to everyone, surfacing in dream, myth, religion and delusion alike.
⭐⭐ THE FIGURE THIS WHOLE WING TESTS. Jung read the Kabbalah late, secondhand and mostly in Latin, and still arrived — by his own account, through a near-death vision rather than a library — at a symbolism close enough to Lurianic doctrine that a serious scholar has written a whole book arguing the two systems say almost the same thing in different vocabularies. Whether that is discovery or projection is the question this pack keeps open rather than closing.
