CARL JUNG AND THE KABBALAH

Mysterium Coniunctionis

Mysterium Coniunctionis
nature
Jung's last major work, completed in his eighties: a study of alchemical marriage symbolism — the coniunctio, the union of opposites pictured as a wedding — read as a map of what happens in the deepest stage of psychological integration.

The alchemical coniunctio and the vision above are the same image told twice. Both are a marriage of opposites standing in for a totality that cannot be reached by either side alone — the alchemists' king and queen, and, on the night of the heart attack, Tiferet and Malkhut. Jung spent his final major book on the alchemical version of a wedding he had already witnessed, on his own account, in the Kabbalistic one.
