CARL JUNG AND THE KABBALAH
Septem Sermones ad Mortuos
the Seven Sermons
nature
Seven short, hallucinatory sermons Jung wrote in a single burst in 1916 and had privately printed — pseudonymously attributed to Basilides, a second-century Gnostic teacher of Alexandria, "the city where the East toucheth the West." They stayed his only public glimpse of the visionary material for over ninety years.
⭐⭐ THE ISLAND THAT TURNED OUT TO BE PART OF A CONTINENT. Jung handed this to a handful of intimates for decades and let almost no one else see it. When The Red Book was finally published in 2009, the Sermones turned out to be its own closing pages, lifted out and given a separate, disguised existence — the one piece of "the confrontation with the unconscious" Jung was ever willing to let into daylight during his lifetime, and even then only wearing a dead Gnostic's name.
