CARL JUNG AND THE KABBALAH

Victor White

Victor White
nature
An English Dominican priest and Thomistic theologian Jung came to call "my white raven" and invited to Bollingen, his private retreat kept for intimates. Their long friendship turned on one disagreement neither would give up: whether evil is a real, active force (Jung) or only privatio boni, an absence of good (classical and Thomistic theology, White's own position).

⭐⭐ THE FRIENDSHIP ANSWER TO JOB ENDED. White's review of the book in Blackfriars in March 1955 was ambivalent enough, and their disagreement sharp enough, that the correspondence never fully recovered — published in full only in 2007 as The Jung–White Letters. A friendship this close, broken by exactly the theological question the Kabbalah also refuses to settle in one direction — is evil a real force in the structure of the world (the qlippot as a real shell) or only its absence — could not have landed anywhere but here.
