THE SOUND OF THE UNSAYABLE
David Krakauer
Krakauer
nature
A classically trained clarinetist who apprenticed himself to the klezmer revival in the 1980s and 90s, playing alongside the tradition's last direct carriers before running the vocabulary through free jazz and drum 'n' bass on albums like Klezmer Madness!
⭐⭐ THE STUDY WAS WITH PEOPLE, NOT RECORDS. Krakauer came up in the same klezmer-revival milieu as Andy Statman below, learning the ornamentation — the krekhts, the laugh-and-cry vocal break — from musicians who had it from before the war, and his fusion work only starts once that apprenticeship is finished. ⚠ This is filed as lineage and revival, not devotion — nothing here claims Krakauer's own religious practice, only what he studied and where he took it.

whyNetzach is endurance — a repertoire kept alive by being handed, ear to ear, past the generation that could have let it die.
