THE SOUND OF THE UNSAYABLE
Matisyahu
Matisyahu
nature
A reggae and beatbox performer who became Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic in his early twenties, toured in a black hat and coat, and had a 2005 hit — "King Without a Crown" — built on that identity; in 2011 he shaved the beard, dropped the Hasidic dress publicly, and said the strict forms no longer fit what he was after.
⭐⭐ THE ARC THE WING KEEPS FINDING IS HIS OWN LIFE. Neither the observant years nor the ones after are staged as the truth the other was hiding — he has described the change as continuing to search rather than abandoning the search, which is closer to the Hasidic idea of a path than the "loss of faith" headline it got. ⚠ The record is dated to a specific Chabad period, and the wing files it there rather than reading his whole catalogue back through it.
