THE SOUND OF THE UNSAYABLE
Scriabin, Prometheus: The Poem of Fire
Prometheus
nature
A symphonic work with a part written for a tastiera per luce — a keyboard that plays coloured light instead of sound — by a composer who intended a final work, the Mysterium, to end the world.
⭐⭐ THE THEOSOPHICAL END OF THE WING, AND THEREFORE THE PLACE IT JOINS ☬ AND ▨ RATHER THAN THE KABBALAH. Scriabin read Blavatsky; his colour-pitch scheme is a system of correspondences of the same family as the Golden Dawn's, which is to say descended from Knorr's Latin Kabbalah rather than from any Hebrew source. ⭐ The Mysterium he did not live to write was to be performed in a temple in the Himalayas over seven days, with scent and dance, and was to dissolve the world into a new one. That is a Lurianic ambition arrived at by a completely different road, which is exactly the shape ▨ the unpaintable keeps finding in the painters.
