THE ATLAS OF THE ONE AND THE MANY

Proclus

Proclus
nature
The last great systematiser of pagan Greek philosophy and head of the Athenian Academy. His Elements of Theology proves two hundred and eleven propositions in the manner of Euclid, each following from the last, and in them he solves a problem Plotinus left open: how does an absolutely simple One relate to a world of many things without becoming many itself? His answer is the henads — unities crowning the centre, each fully divine, each a different manner in which the One is participated.

Formally the same solution the sephirot are, three centuries early. Not the sephirot — his unities are gods, and carry no Torah, no exile and no repair — but the same shape of answer, and it reached the Kabbalists through a chain this pack draws.
