Richard Bandler

A mathematics and computer-science student at UC Santa Cruz who, while editing tapes of Perls for a publisher, discovered he could reproduce the patterns himself. He recruited a linguistics professor to explain why it worked, and NLP followed.

Co-author of the whole first generation of the material. Also the source of much of its later trouble: the trademark suits of the 1990s, the extravagant claims, the split field.
