Virginia Satir

The founding figure of family therapy, and one of the three therapists Bandler and Grinder actually modelled. She worked at MRI in Palo Alto and had an uncanny, apparently intuitive gift for hearing what a family was really saying under what it said.

The Meta-Model is, in large part, a transcription of Satir's questions. She supplied the warmth the model can lack: she asked the same cutting questions, but in a way people survived being asked.
