Anchoring

Deliberately pairing a stimulus — a touch, a word, a gesture — with a state, so the stimulus later re-evokes the state. Classical conditioning, applied to oneself, on purpose.

The mechanism is uncontroversial; the claim that a single pairing suffices is not. Useful, over-sold, and a good example of the field's general pattern.
