A young man, after a fall, can forget nothing. Every leaf of every tree at every hour has its own name in his mind. He finds thinking almost impossible, because to think is to forget differences.

The exact inverse of the map story, and just as important: abstraction is not a defect of the mind but its function. Korzybski's "consciousness of abstracting" needs Funes as its warning.
