Neon Genesis Evangelion

Evangelion
nature
Hideaki Anno's twenty-six-episode series and its film ending. Sephirotic diagrams in the opening titles and again at the Third Impact; Adam, Lilith and the Lilim; the Lance of Longinus; a committee called SEELE; a giant crucified figure in a chamber called Terminal Dogma.

⭐⭐⭐ THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT NODE IN THIS WING, AND IT INDICTS THIS APP. The Tree of Life diagrams in Evangelion are not from Jewish sources. They are Kircher's and Robert Fludd's — Christian Cabalists — and the tree seen in End of Evangelion came, in all likelihood, from a popular reference work: Robert Ambelain's La Kabbale pratique, 1951. So the anime that showed the sephirot to more people than any object in history is printing the same 1652 Jesuit diagram this app itself booted on until 2026-07-25. Two works, seventy years and one ocean apart, reached for "the Kabbalah" and both came back holding Athanasius Kircher.

⚠ And the disclaimer is part of the record: assistant director Kazuya Tsurumaki has said the religious symbolism was chosen because it looked good and was unfamiliar to a Japanese audience. Some scholars take that at face value; others read it as deflection. The room reports the dispute and does not settle it. What is not in dispute is the provenance of the picture.
