Fullmetal Alchemist

FMA
nature
Hiromu Arakawa's manga and its adaptations. The Gate of Truth is engraved with a Tree of Life; the antagonists are homunculi named for the seven deadly sins; the physics of the world is equivalent exchange, and its alchemy is drawn from real European sources.

A second enormously popular work whose Tree is a Christian-Cabalist diagram rather than a Jewish one — the same route as Evangelion, and reaching a comparable audience. Worth noting what it does with the material rather than only where it got it: equivalent exchange — that nothing is obtained without something of equal value being lost — is a genuinely serious moral engine, and the story's whole argument is that the principle is insufficient for human beings. That is better philosophy than most of what borrows more accurately.
