Sun Ra

Herman Blount of Birmingham, Alabama, who said he was not from Earth but from Saturn, renamed himself after the Egyptian sun, led the Arkestra for four decades in robes and headdresses, and built a cosmology out of Egyptology, biblical wordplay, numerology and science fiction.

An entire esoteric system assembled from the ground up by a Black American musician, on his own authority, from sources he chose. ⚠ There are Theosophical books in the mix — that milieu was in the air in the Black esoteric reading rooms of the 1930s and 1940s — but calling Sun Ra a descendant of Blavatsky would be exactly the error this section exists to prevent. His actual method is closer to the tradition this app is about than most of the descendants are: reading a received text against itself, letter by letter, until it yields something the reading community did not intend. He did it to the King James Bible.
