THE ATLAS OF THE POLISHED MIRROR
One generation, two ends of the Mediterranean
c. 1240–1290
nature
Ibn ʿArabī dies in Damascus in 1240, the year Abulafia is born in Zaragoza. Rūmī dies in Konya in 1273. The Zohar begins circulating in Castile around 1280, the same year Abulafia walks into Rome to convert the Pope.
Not a claim — a calendar. Two traditions produce the books that will define them inside fifty years of each other, in a single connected world of Arabic, Hebrew and Persian letters, with traders, translators and travellers moving continuously between them. The app puts the dates side by side and lets the reader weigh it.
