THE ATLAS OF THE SOCIETY THAT SPLICED

The Plagiarism Charge

Coleman
nature
William Emmette Coleman, an American critic, announced that he had traced some two thousand passages in Blavatsky's books to about a hundred contemporary works — encyclopaedias, translations and popular compendia — used without acknowledgement.

⚠ And the app applies its own instrument here too, in both directions. Coleman was a committed hostile partisan, and the complete analysis he promised was never published; the tally circulates as a number without the working. At the same time, later scholars examining the material independently have found substantial unacknowledged borrowing. So: the charge is not proven in the form it is usually quoted, and it is not baseless either. State the claim, name its source, mark what is missing — the same rule this app uses on the traditions it loves.
