THE ATLAS OF THE SOCIETY THAT SPLICED
One Lodge, Many Founders
the Initiates
nature
The corollary that shocked the nineteenth century: Jesus, Moses, Muhammad, the Buddha, Krishna, Zoroaster, Orpheus and Pythagoras are Initiates of the same school, sent in different centuries to different peoples, teaching one doctrine in the local idiom and at the level the audience could bear.
The comparison, stated as biography. It dissolves the exclusive claim of every revealed religion at a stroke — no founder is unique, each is a graduate — and it is why Theosophy was hated by orthodoxies it thought it was flattering. ⚠ Worth being precise about what it costs. To make the founders agree you must decide in advance what they agreed about, which means the "one doctrine" is not found by comparison — it is the thing brought to the comparison. And the differences that get discarded are usually the parts each tradition would say were the point.
