Eikasia · the shadows on the wall

The lowest station of the divided line (509d): taking images for things. The prisoners are not stupid — they are expert: they name the shadows, learn their order, and give honors and prizes to whoever best predicts what crosses next (516c). Plato's sharpest touch is that the shadows are shadows of copies — cutout artifacts, not the things themselves — so the wall is two removes from the real. The Kabbalistic ear hears the kelipah: the husk that hides a spark, the world as light in wrappers. And it hears a warning this app takes personally: every diagram of the Tree is a shadow of it, and honest shadow-work must say so.
