Compulsion, against participation

Theurgy is participation. The soul is lifted; the gods are not moved, cannot be moved, and are not the object of the operation — the operator is. Ceremonial magic in the Order's sense includes something else: the compelling of a spirit to appear and to obey, by name, by seal, by threat of a greater name.

The Kabbalah's practice runs overwhelmingly the other way. Study, prayer, blessing, mitzvah, the permutation of letters, devekut — cleaving upward toward a God who is addressed and never commanded. Even the Sar Torah adjurations, which are the tradition's most legally aggressive texts, subpoena an angel rather than compel God, and ask for retention rather than power.

This is exactly why Wing E exists and why the Ars Goetia is excluded from this app outright. The boundary is not squeamishness; it is this distinction, held.
