Elijah (Eliyahu)

The prophet who never died — taken up in the fire-chariot, he became the tradition's permanent liaison officer: "revelation of Elijah" (gilui Eliyahu) is the technical term for direct transmission from heaven, claimed for Isaac the Blind, Luria, and others. He opens the Tikkunei Zohar ("Patach Eliyahu"), visits every circumcision and seder, and will file the final report before the Messiah.
