The single fact that organises the whole descendants' bench. Everything downstream of this point reads the Kabbalah through Christian Latin rather than through Hebrew and Aramaic — and through a selection made by people who believed these books proved Christian doctrine. Two bottlenecks, twenty-five years apart. The diagram: Athanasius Kircher's arrangement of sephirot and paths, printed in Oedipus Aegyptiacus (Rome, 1652). The text: Christian Knorr von Rosenroth's Kabbala Denudata (Sulzbach, 1677), a Latin anthology of the Zohar's Idrot, of Cordovero, and of the Lurianic material. Two centuries later Mathers built The Kabbalah Unveiled (1887) on that Latin — and concedes it in his own preface. These are derivatives that forked from the essence. They are not the essence.

And the fork is not a wound. Hebrew and Aramaic Kabbalah went on being written, argued and lived the whole time, in languages Knorr's readers could not read; nothing after 1677 interrupted it for a day. What broke was this line of descent, not the tradition.

⚠ This app is on the wrong side of it too. Tehiru opened on Kircher's wiring for its entire life until 2026-07-25, and its tarot rows, colour scales and Rose of 22 petals all come from here. A descendants' bench that exempted the room it was built in would be worth nothing.
