Rhythm — "everything flows, out and in"

The fifth principle: the pendulum-swing, the measure of the swing to the right being the measure of the swing to the left; the wise learn to rise above the swing rather than be carried by it. The Tree's own word for this is ratzo va-shov — running and returning, the pulse of the living creatures in Ezekiel's vision, the systole and diastole of the whole cosmos; and tzimtzum itself is a withdrawal that makes a return possible. Both traditions counsel the same posture: do not identify with the phase you are in.
