Fusus al-Hikam · The Bezels of Wisdom

Ibn Arabi's densest book, which he said the Prophet handed him whole in a dream: twenty-seven chapters, each a "bezel" — the setting that holds a gemstone — where one prophet's life holds one facet of divine wisdom. Adam is the bezel of divinity, Abraham of intimate friendship, Moses of eminence, each human life a setting shaped exactly to the Name it displays. The Kabbalah reads its figures the same way: Abraham is Chesed, Isaac is Gevurah, Jacob is Tiferet — biography as the anatomy of God's aspects. Two traditions, one exegetical instinct: the lives of the fathers are vessels of the attributes.
