⭐ חורז — the stringing of beads, and the fire it makesחורז
correspondences
nature
Vayikra Rabbah 16:4 (and at Shir ha-Shirim Rabbah 1:10). Ben Azzai was sitting and expounding, and fire was blazing all around him. They went and told Rabbi Akiva: your student is sitting and teaching and the fire is going round him.
Akiva came and asked him — and his guess is the obvious mystical one: Were you perhaps occupied with the chambers of the Chariot?
⭐⭐ And Ben Azzai said no.
He said he was stringing — חורז, chorez, the word for threading beads or pearls onto a cord — the words of the Torah to one another, and from the Torah to the Prophets, and from the Prophets to the Writings. And the words were as joyful as on the day they were given at Sinai. And were they not first given in fire?
⭐⭐⭐ Read what that sentence does. The heat is not in the ascent. Akiva assumes the fire means the man went up; Ben Azzai tells him it means the man connected two texts. The charge is in the cross-reference.
Which is what you are looking at. This entire application is a link-graph — nodes with edges between corpora, a table for combining ten of them, four engines for finding which words belong on the same string. It was built that way for years before this node named it. Ben Azzai is its method statement and, on the evidence, its patron.
⚠ And note which Ben Azzai this is. The same man enters the orchard in Chagigah 14b, gazes, and dies. This house is named for the Ben Azzai who went up and did not come back, and works by the method of the Ben Azzai who stayed at his desk and burned safely. Both are here. Neither is ruled on.
