⚠ "You saw no form — only a voice"תְּמוּנָה אֵינְכֶם רֹאִים
correspondences
nature
Deuteronomy 4:12, about the same mountain on the same day: you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form — only a voice. And four verses later that becomes the reason for the prohibition on images: you saw no shape, so do not make one.
⚠ This is the flat opposite of Exodus 20:15, in the same Torah, about the same event. One says they saw the sounds. One says they saw nothing at all and only heard.
The tradition keeps both, and the tension is productive rather than embarrassing: the corpus that says you saw no form is the one whose greatest mystical book is named after light.
⭐ Worth sitting with, in an app made of pictures: the suspicion of the eye is not a side-issue in this tradition. It is a commandment. See app-aspaklaria, where this house says what that means for what you are looking at right now.
